Firmware Updates to Ross Video’s openGear MC1 Master Control and Gator Cards

If you currently have Ross Video’s MC1 Master Control switcher or Gator toolbox, which are both openGear cards, you’ll want to get the updates that are available for added functionality.

Darren Ward of Ross Video spoke with Matt Robbins of KITPLUS at IBC2024 about the updates, starting with the Ross MC1 Master Control switcher. It’s UHD capable, but if you’re using the card at up to 3G, you can now store as many as 4 logos instead of 2 and have them ready for keying.

The MC1 Master Control also now includes a smart internal failover. You can look at video, audio, and ancillary data parameters, select from a pool of parameters, and based on any failures in those areas, the card will do an automatic failover to any of the inputs, which is a great feature to have on one of the final cards in your signal chain.

The Gator toolbox is a UHD-capable up/down/cross converter, frame rate converter, SDR to HDR converter, and color corrector. If you don’t need the UHD functionality, Ross has enabled a complete second signal path through the card. It’ll do a full second set of conversions.

They also spoke briefly about the robust state of the openGear ecosystem, including 20,000 DashBoard downloads every 6 months, 170 openGear partners, and more than 53,000 frames in total.
